Get Motorcraft ATF from ford. Most of the time, if its changing filters/oil ect. get motorcraft, rangers like em.

There are some who swear that synthetic give better gas mileage. That may be true but to see any measurable difference, you would have to change everything over to synthetic.
As far as changing the fluid, I'm drawing off of memory but I think 60,000 miles is the standard change interval.
Personally, I just use Mercon V.

I always was told to change it every 20k miles. there is no filter on a manual ranger. Drain the old fluid out and put the new in

Re: 2010 manual tranny 2.3 reg cab.... best tranny fluid??
when taking out the fill plug will a 24 MM 12pt wrench work since it has the rounded corners or should I take it off with a 6pt 24 mm wrench (harder to find)??

Doesn't matter really, if it's tight enough to strip it, then to should spray some PBBlaster on it.

Use a six point or a good open end wrench.

Btw, I'm going to run mobil1 full synthetic in mine, it's $10 a quart but it only takes 2.75.

In theory you should not have to replace manual transmission fluid. but if you wanted to stay on the automatic schedule i also believe its 60K. I will be replacing mine soon just to see if there are any metal shavings and to just get some new fluid in there. i have a 02 manual and the fluid has already been replaced once years ago by Rapid Lube back home years ago, they told me the fluid was "burnt" and since my parents were paying i said sure.
as far as royal purple goes, I think Mercon will do just as fine. I thought about royal purple for a while then realize Ford made it for a reason, i have an older tranny and am replacing the fluid on an automatic schedule anyways so even Mercon will do just as fine as royal purple.

Now who told you that you shouldn't change the fluid? If we weren't supposed to there wouldn't be a fill and a drain hole. And my fluid wouldn't have been completely pitch black when it came out of my transmission instead of red.

There is a replacement schedule for manual transmissions as well. Every manual transmission vehicle I have ever owned has had a recommended change interval. The oil, whatever type it is, will wear out.

Re: 2010 manual tranny 2.3 reg cab.... best tranny fluid??
first off who drives realistically in perfect take it easy normal driving conditions? get phuuuucken real!! You really think a 17 year old takes it easy on dad's bought ranger??
I use my ranger in the most extreme conditions you can think of: summers of up to 120 degrees driving up the mountains against winds that make it difficult to drive past 55 MPH. I live in the desert. I change the MTF at 71 k miles on my 2010 and it was dark almost all red color gone and the drain plug had a bunch of finee metal shavings. the new fresh oil was night and day comparing colors from new to old.
Don't listen to the gay that says don't change manual tranny fluid.
