88 ranger 4x4 transfer case motor problems
hi im somewhat new to frf and i have a problem with my 88 ranger v6 4x4. when i bought the truck, there was no motor on the transfer case to engage 4wd. i can put the truck into 4wd by turning the shaft on the back of the transfer case, where the motor goes, and it works well. my truck did take the round connector for the transfer case motor. my dad had an extra transfer case motor from a 90's f150, but it has the square connector. each color actually matches up, and i had the male and female square connector, so i cut off the round connector that was on the end of my trucks harness, matched all the colors up to the square connector. before i connected the wires, i tested them with a test light and only one of them was hot with the key on, and with the truck running. i believe it was yellow. now when i go to push my buttons for 4x4 and 4x4 low, nothing happens. i know i have juice to the buttons inside the cab, because when i first start the truck up, both 4x4 and 4x4 low lights light up momentarily, but i cant get the motor to engage. i dont know if there is a relay somewhere, or if i should have more than just one hot wire, anything to help narrow this down would be great, thanks
