Default 95 tranny problems auto

Hey everyone

I'v been lookign online to diagnose what is going on with my truck, and i think I may have found an answer. I have an automatic 2wd 95 supercab xlt with a 4.0

Here are my issues-

I have a rough idle, can hear a whistle noise from under the cab, it seems to slam into reverse when coming out of park, and while cruising down the road it seems to be slow at changing gears and sometimes i have to let up on the gas for it to switch.

I've read that it can be as simple as a modulator or a solenoid? Whats the difference between these and how hard are they to replace?

I want to fix this before I go back to school since i'm taking it with me, any ideas or thoughts?

Anyone have thoughts? Also, when I'm driving in 2nd or 3rd gear it seems to be jolting when I step on the accelerator, but while coasting it seems fine...

Vacuum modulator operates on engine vacuum .. solenoid usually on electricity.

modulator is usually an easy fix

I have the 4r55e. I've also read that it could be the separator plate gasket? I've looked up how to change it but it doesn't say anything about the whistle so I will look more tomorrow for the where it's coming from.
