On the old seal there is a gap between the seal and the shaft on the transmission, Not sure if theres suppose to be a gap. Any other places where ATF could be leaking out of. There is a crack on the shaft. Could that be it? Picture of crack ---> http://uploadpie.com/zoGDm

There should be enough room between the shaft and seal for the nose of the convertor to go back in to engage the oil pump. Put some ATF on the nose so the seal isn't dry on start up.
That part of the shaft that is Chipped off is now inside of the Convertor, at some point it may get lodged and lock up the convertor. Good luck if you don't replace it, but now that you have the tranny out you may want to.

Torque it down till it breaks off, then back it off 1/4 turn.
