Replaced the clutch-squishy pedal and won't shift
Hey everyone, I just replaced my clutch along with the pressure plate as well as the concentric slave cylinder.
I am sure I got the right parts and put everything back together. I went to bleed the system shortly after and it was very hard to bleed and the pedal was squishy. Eventually I got it to bleed until there was few to no bubbles, closed it off and filled up the reservior with fluid. The pedal was still squishy and my truck would not go into any gears when it was turned off or on. The concentric slave cylinder sits just against the fingers but with little pressure and will not move (is this a hydraulic problem?)
Do you think I should replace the master cylinder? or what could of went wrong?
and if I do need to replace the master cylinder do is it necessary to replace the entire hydraulic assembly along with it?

Always make sure u have enough fluid in the reservoir when bleeding, im guessing u still have air in the line.

Re: Replaced the clutch-squishy pedal and won't shift
would air in the line cause the throw out bearing/concentric slave cylinder to not move at all when the pedal is depressed?

yes. if there is air in the system, the slave will not engage. go to harbor freight and buy a vaccum pump. hook it up and suck the fluid thru. this is the best way to bleed it. do not pump the pedal like you are bleeding brakes, this system does not work like that.

Re: Replaced the clutch-squishy pedal and won't shift
thanks guys this really helps for the reassurance of the whole assembly.
I think I'll use a vacuum pump, however would pouring fluid through until you pour about 4-5oz through get rid of air in the line and fill the hydraulic assembly back up without air just as well as using a vacuum pump?

Re: Replaced the clutch-squishy pedal and won't shift
no, its a gravity thing and takes forever to gravity bleed. partially because there is a loop in the line, this is where the air gets trapped. 2 options, vaccum pump or large turkey baster to push the fluid thru.
get a bottle of fluid from the back of the shelf. let it sit for a few days with the top cracked. this will let the fluid settle and release the air bubbles. make sure you dont drop the bottle or shake it, this will create thousands of tiny air bubbles that will go in the system which will group together and make a big air bubble.

From my experiance nothing beats using the vacume, and once you do it you will agree. There might be other tricks but the vacume is far and away the easiest, fastest, and most effective.
