Exclamation Ford Bronco 8.8 in a Ranger?! Will it work?

Hey guys!
I was wondering about doing an axle swap for my ranger. I have a 2004xl 2wd. I currently have the 7.5 w/ 3.73 gears. I've seen threads about axle swaps on here before but I was wondering if it would fit.

I was looking a buying a 8.8 w/ 4.56 gears. It came off of a bronco 4x4. It also has ford racing gears and a detroit air locker, as well a mag tech diff cover.

I am wondering a couple things:
1. Will this be a direct bolt in? (it looks like the shock mounts are on the same side?)
2. Is $1000 a good price for everything (it was all rebuilt, repainted, and regeared 3,000 miles ago)
3. Will the brakes be drum or disc?

If there is anything else that you'd think is helpful please let me know as I am not super mechanically inclined.

Thanks guys!!

Im pretty sure it will fit, there has been a rumored factory 8.8 3.56 rear end ranger. But from my knowledge noone knows if it even exists.

I do know that the FX4's came with the 8.8 4.10 31 spline stock, so im pretty sure it should bolt right on.

its a full width probably. gonna stick out waaaay too far.

and its the 4.56 (not 3.56) axle thats controversial in north american rangers, never been found to my knowledge. it can be found on mexican rangers, i know a member who has it.

Its 5 or 6 inches wider than the ranger axle.

bronco/f150 is 65" wms

Ranger is 58.5 wms iirc

Well thanks for the help guys! Where can i get an airlocker for a 7.5" rear end with the 4.56 gear ratio?

----------

I guess a better way to phrase it is: how do i get an airlocker on my ranger???

i think detroit makes a 7.5 locker.. but i dont know of any air lockers. what id do is go get a ranger or explorer 8.8 from a junkyard and build that. way more aftermarket support. and theyre stronger.

Rangers are stupid common, just get the tag number you need and hit the local boneyard. It'll take no time to find an 8.8 from a Ranger in the most common gears, hell my yard probably has 30 Rangers in various states of dead, from the XLT fully loaded like I have to bare knuckle strippers. And last I check 8.8's weren't on their hot item stupid expensive list. So probably 200 bucks will get you what you want with an LS. Unless you are set on a lower geared (bigger number numerically) rearend
