Mazda B3000 Transmission
Hello, I just bought a Mazda B3000 3.0L 2WD A/T.
The trans is acting very weird. When I first start it, I have almost no forward drive. I will be floored, and it will barely move. When I shift into reverse, it slams into it and shakes the whole truck. (U-Joints I thought)
Then, yesterday, it just revved up (like in neutral) then dumped into gear.
If this is indeed the transmission going out, will a Ford Ranger trans be compatible to it? Same with the Torque converter.
Also what years of the b3000 and Ranger would work?
I am in need of help soon, as I start college at UTI in 2 months.
Thank you

Different years take different transmissions, what year is yours?

Re: Mazda B3000 Transmission
It's best to try and stay with the same year, or one year older/newer. You more than likely have an A4LD, so you may have a little more wiggle room than if you had a 4R44E-5R55E, which are a nightmare to interchange.
3.0 and 4.0 bell housings are different as well, so you will need a transmission from another 3.0 Ranger/B3000.
Regardless, whatever problem you have is gonna require surgery since the transmission is pretty much sealed, so you're gonna pay to play no matter how you look at it.
While you're at UTI, make sure you take and listen to every last transmission course you can. It will help you in the long run, on any and every vehicle you will ever own for the rest of your life. Transmissions only get worse as the years go on, and labor costs rise as well.

Re: Mazda B3000 Transmission
So I checked the tranny fluid and i had almost none.
I think it's because I checked it in neutral before.
The dipstick said to check it in park.(Didn't see it before)
So I threw in 2 quarts and it works a little better now that it has fluid

Yup. Get the tranny rebuilt due to running it with out any. Gears are prolly worn out.

Re: Mazda B3000 Transmission
I think I'm going to be forced to just run it until it gives up on me.
Then hopefully have enough for a wrecking yard trans.

Re: Mazda B3000 Transmission
You want to always check the trans fluid when its hot, engine running, and in park after a drive.
The fluid expands a lot as it holds over 2 gallons. Keep an eye on it, sounds like you have a leak. Also keep in mind low fluid is just as bad as too much fluid, unlike the oil dipstick the cross hatched marks doesn't indicate a quart low but your target range, a pint or less will be way too much once you see it on the stick.
