Default 2011 5 speed manual fifth gear problem

Have a new 2011 4 cylinder 5 speed manual. It has less than 1,000 miles on it. From day one fifth gear has a problem. If I shift from 4th to 5th it's fine. If I put it in neutral and then try to put it in gear it will go in any gear but 5th. If I try to shift from 3rd to 5th it will not go. If I shift from 4th to 5th slowly it wont go. I can get it in by double clutching. It feels like the synchronizer is not right. It's annoying but I can live with it. Here is my problem: Our local Ford dealers are both owned by the same person and they are outright crooks. Bought this truck from an out of town dealership and would need to take it to them. I'm trying to decide if I take it to the dealer to fix it, will be better or worse when they finish? I'd rather live with it than have more problems when I get it back. Especially since it's 75 miles one way to the dealer.

Anyone know how Ford would deal with this? Would they just replace the transmission or open it up and repair it? Had a similar problem with a 70's F150 with the grannie first. It was third gear synchro, it was never resolved. Was back at the dealership about 6 times and they allegedly changed everything but the case and the symptom never changed. They would not replace the complete transmission period. And that was that. I called everyone but Henry Ford and bitched with no help.

That sounds like a warranty claim, take it to Ford, any dealer will work but it sounds like you'd be better going to the dealer you purchased it from, because they should tell you the same thing. Have a tech go for a test drive so you can show him the symptom and verify he is seeing the same thing as you. Take the paperwork you have on fixing the issue so far, and if they are trying to tell you something different, keep taking it back. Ford (ie FORD the head haunchos) will get word of it sometime, and can send a internal head tech out to look at it and possibly replace the transmission. Or you could just take it to a local shop and have them look at it.If it really is the transmission, they will repair it, but now adays it's simply cheaper and easier for them to replace the whole thing sometimes.

Friday night the clutch started dragging. Not all the time but it kept getting worse. Had to shut down the engine, put it in gear and start the engine. Then it quit dragging and started chattering when moving from a dead stop. Fairly low frequency but violent. Then it smoothed out but is still noticeable. So I loaded it up on my trailer and hauled it to the dealer. Only 1600 miles on it. 5th gear is better but still not right.

Can't wait to hear what the dealer says.

Sounds like the transmission they put in your truck has bad synchros already. I'd tell them to replace the transmission--not to mention, it sounds like your input shaft bearings are already going as well.

And since you've got problems with 5th, and now it chatters, tell them to replace it--it's still under warranty. Lastly, don't take anybody's stuff about it anyway, lol

Make sure when you get your truck back that your completely satisfied with the work Ford did, dont let them try put a veil on your eyes and TELL YOU its good enough. Its should be up to the owner and not the garage to determine if the repair is good enough.

FYI Ford is known to be A-holes to customers esp warranty related so stand your ground.
