Exclamation high rpm between gears

i've got an 87 ranger 2.0l manual tranny and when i shift gears, especially from 1st to 2nd, when i depress the clutch the rpm jump way high for a couple of seconds and then idles down. the truck has bad rings and blow by and this didnt start until the blow by did. someone told me it was the fast idle solenoid that was on the fritz. is this true? i cant afford a new truck so if anyone has as cheap fix that would be awesome

Have you flushed your transmission fluid lately? How does it look?

There's a known problem with some ranger transmissions when shifting from 2nd to 3rd... but doesn't sound like that's related.

Had some similar problems with my 2.3l, think it was involving the idle sensor on the transmission which senses whether the truck was still in motion. either way, if you need any info on it, i have the oem schematics if yours is efi.
