Default Rear diff/ what weight oil?

Does anybody know what weight oil and how many quarts I need for my rear diff. It is a 05 ranger edge and it has a open diff with the 7.5" ring gear and a 28 spline axle. Also do I want to run synthetic or dyno oil. I am installing a powertrax lock right 1830 and doing the rear disk brake mod. Also do you think because I am adding the locker I should use oil that is for a limited slip diff? Sorry for all the questions but I am at work and I no longer have a owners manual as it was stolen.

Check with the locker manufacturer to see what the recommend for the locker. Thats what you'll want to run. If they say to use the normal fluid, then 75/90 gear oil is what you want. As far as dino oil v.s. synthetic, I personally prefer synthetic, and use Amsoil in my L/S 8.8 axle.

80w90 is the Ford spec. I run 75W90 Royal Purple full synthetic.

Synthetic oil has better cooling additives in it....and cooler gears are happy long lasting gears.

The amount of fluid....?? I honestly don't know. But my 31spline 8.8 totally dry too a full gallon of oil to fill. My spec said 3qts. Happy I got a gallon. Now....you've got alot smaller tubes and smaller diff. Honestly don't know the fill spec for 7.5's.

I've never filled a 7.5, took it out instead. But according to Ford (owners manual), it takes 2.5 quarts for a 7.5, and 2.75 quarts for the 8.8. My 8.8 took 3 quarts, and it wasn't quite topped off, but the fill spec is to .25" below the fill hole.

I'd say, get 3 quarts, and put them in. If it isn't running out the hole, you're good.

Ford's Tech site says 5.0 pints which is 2.5 quarts on a 7.5 Ranger axle. I'd grab 3 and get a forth just in case. Take the extra one back if you didn't need it.
