Default auto trans. takes a long time to shift into drive or reverse

I own 2011 ranger 4.0 auto. It takes a long time to shift into drive and reverse. it seems worse in the morning but, it does it all the time. Im wondering if this normal for rangers or if anyone else has this issue. im talking about 2 or 3 seconds. It doesnt seem long but when your making a u-turn its a long time. If i give it gas before its ingaged it slames hard into gear and cherps the tires. Any info is would be great.

Did you check the fluid level?

Well, that's about all the help I can issue. Aside from adding fluid, I don't know much about transmissions. Sorry

Check the throttle position sensor. I had an issue with mine that seems similar. Replaced it for $30 and it corrected the problem.

Actually after reading it again it's not the same. I thought you meant it would sit in a gear too long before up-shifting or downshifting. Sorry.

My 96 4.0 does the same thing, I understand the u-turn thing, mine also hesitates going between 2 & 3, revs up unless I take my foot off the pedal, after doing that it shifts fine, gonna be riding my bike almost all summer so plan on doing something with it then along with rebuilding the rear end and putting on mustang rear rotors.
