Exclamation Popping Noise under driver-side floor board..

Ok , I have what sounds to be a popping and a tiny little thump-type noise on my driver-side floorboard when turning at a stop sign or like turning around in a driveway. Can anybody shed some light onto what that might be? I drive a 2001 Ranger XLT w/ the 3.0 V6 in it. I read from another post that it could be the torsion bar that is messed up. Personally, I have no clue as to what it may be. I am not mechanically inclined and don't ever pretend to be. Any input would be of help, thx ..

Also, if you feel the need to be a smart-ass then please dont reply.
Again, I am not mechanically inclined but I try to do the best I can.
If I WAS so inclined I wouldn't be asking for help/opinions.. Thank You

It appears that you have a 2WD XLT. If that is the case, then your front suspension has coil springs, not torsion bars.

The noise could possibly be a loose/damaged/creaking body mount. There is a bolt for the mount under an oval rubber plug under the carpet in both the driver and the passenger side footwells.

It could also be a ball joint that only sounds like it is under the floorboard.

Well , I had a mechanic friend take a look at the truck, he put it up on the lift, walked under it and told me to come look: It was my Sway Bar Links , they were in pretty bad shape and the rubber surroundings(?) were falling off. Also, unrelated to the issue he saw my fuel filter and asked when the last time i put one on was... I hadn't , I have only had the truck for a little over a year.

Had the same probvlem with my 2002 4WD. The top bolt of the sway bar link was broken off. Only symptom was an occassional clunk when cornering.

----------

Does anybody know the torque value for the sway bar links. Seems they continue to toghten and compress the rubber bushings!

Alright, this is what I found after working this for 3 months.

The front suspension has all new components and bushings. My Monroe shock on the DS, blew out, it was 2 years old. I've had this mysterious clunk that could be felt in the DS floorboard, so I took out the torsion bar, checked the "gasket seat" and didn't find anything wrong with it. I had replaced the sway bar links, no issues there. I did notice that the Engine shock on the drivers side was loose from the top mount. I called a mechanic buddy, he noticed while moving the DS upper control arm up and down that it felt like it was binding. The Rear bushing was towards the outside and the inner was more towards the inside, towards the engine. To see if this might be causing the clunk, we adjusted them both to the outside/middle. If you've worked on this setup, you know how much of a pain they can be. I haven't heard or felt a clunk in a week! I torqued the bolt/nut down to 110ft/lbs.

What might have happened is that while driving to work, Maryland Route 50 has this bump, more like a speed bump, that you cannot avoid. This might have moved the suspension enough to cause the infamous clunk.

The box says just until the poly bushings start to compress. The service manual says 15-21 ft/lbs.
