Default 1993 ford explorer tranny and rear axle for my 1993 ranger?

Alright guys so heres what I have going on, I have a friend whos had his exploder sitting for the last 2 years because and I believe it was something as simple as the alternator dieing, hes kind of a hippy and doesnt want the thing because of the mpgs it was getting, what I do know is that it has a rebuilt tranny with less than 15,000 miles on, but unfortunately I dont know if its a v6 or v8, but either way I was wondering if I can swap the rear ends and if it is a v6 can I pull the tranny and put it in. Hes wants 500 for it once its running and if I can convince him to sell it for 250-300 as is Id be stupid not to if I know I can swap out what I need out of it.

It will fit. If I recall correctly the 4.0 trans is different from the 3.0 V6 trans and 4 cylinder trans. I'd get it for this price if the trans is compatible as you'll most likely get better seats and console.

Well he's pulling all info on it, I asked him if 250 was good for its current condition and he told me he was gonna ask me the same, so 250 for the bucket seats and rear axle is hella good to me, let alone a possible v8 swap.

its only a v8 if its 95 or newer. and even then its rare. and if its 4x4 the tranny will not work. output shaft is different ans so is the tail housing. you can swap out the rear ends. it will take some modifications though.
