When my dad taught me to drive while living overseas (All cars were manual at the time), he told me that when you're flat you always put it in reverse, however when you facing uphill to put it in first to supposedly keep it in forward gear in case it rolled backwards and vice versa for facing downhill.

I believe Ford uses the same gear ratio between 1st & reverse...If your engine holds compression it dosen't matter. It's not going anywhere. Even if you towed it the rear wheels would drag!

one would think you wouldent want to force the engine backwards so choosing a gear relative to the most likely direction to roll is a good idea?? Did i just over complacate something?
