help please!!!
I have a 97 4.0 4wd.
It grinds everytime I turn and then a loud clunk sound like bang comes from the front tire area and the whole truck jerks. I have no idea what this is.
Anyone have any idea?
Thanks, brandon.

Are you using 4wd while on the pavement? If so, you are stressing the drivetrain by forcing a front and rear tire to turn at the same rate. These 4wd systems are part time and not meant for the pavement. They're for gravel, dirt, ice, snow, mud etc. anything that allows the tires to slip enough to compensate for the tires rotate at the same speed. Hope that makes sense

Unlock them and you will no longer here the noises.
Having them locked is like having the truck in 4wd.

Re: help please!!!
Do the cv joints sound like gears grinding while your slowing down, then make a loud bang?
