Default Regear Help! Right gears?

OK, so I am in the middle of my regear. Got Richmond 4.56 from Summit.
Got the Ratech tool for pinion depth.

Here in lies the problems I am running into:

1. Has anyone heard of a 4.56 ring gear that did NOT need to be trimmed for the cross pin or a notched pin? Mine stock pin slid right in NO problem.

2. When I attempt to set the pinion depth using the Ratech tool (I know they have ups and downs as far as people are concerned), the Centerline Distance to my pinion head without a shim is STILL not deep enough by about .017. My distance is 2.609 and on my pinion head CD needs to be 2.626. This means I would need to back it out more, which is not possible.

Do we think I got the wrong gears in the right box? I have heard EVERYONE say that 4.56 should either need teeth grinded or a notched pin. Even the guy at Summit Customer Service asked if I got a notched pin and when I told him my stock one slid right in he said on his system it says its required.

Might as well send them back to Summit for an even exchange but I wanted some opinions.

Thanks!

Yes I've heard of people installing 4.56's and not having to grind a tip of a tooth to make it happen.

Over the years, some don't - some do. Found a few threads on Google from the 'other forum' where owners have had different results.

With my 4.88's, I barely had to grind a tooth or two for it to fit - so with the 4.56's it's gotta be a fine line between working or not.

Crap, after I went and took the ring gear off ha.

Still can't figure out why the CD is off like that. Using the Ratech tool I got 3.102 from the tool and measure 0.492 to the Axle Line. That means current depth without shim is 3.102-0.492=2.610. On the pinion head CD should be 2.626. This means that without a shim its .016 not deep enough.

Hmmm maybe there is no substitute for checking, checking again, rechecking, and check some more. Just thought the math would be more accurate than my eyes.
