Default floor mounted automatic shifter

ok so i dont know if this has ever been done. but i want to put a floor mounted shifter in my auto matic ranger. like the old school trucks. question is how do i rewire the o/d button and get rid of my old shifter handle cleanly. second question is will i run into any major shift linkage problems. third is will cutting a hole in my floorboard cause any issues. if anyone has done this could you help me out plz.

i dont think its gonna take all that nuch i havent looked underneth it but the o/d light after looking ant the wireing diagram is just a 2 wire switch so thats not to hard. cutting a hole isnt hard. i just need to get under thare and see about shift linkages, oh and you wont have the little prnd21 indicator anymore. idk im gonna ask the ford instructors at scool.

I've been looking into doing this with my truck... I was thinking about getting a big rig shifter though with the splitter switch (little tab on the front) rigged up to turn the OD on and off... kinda a novelty, but I think it'd be badass. Probably more fun to drive too..... I also want to put one of the "jacobs compression brake" switch lables behind my TC lockup switch. Big little truck haha

For a clean removal of the shifter on the column, couldn't you just get a manual ranger steering column from the jy?...probably only the trim pieces would be necessary.

I have been thinking about this as well. I've heard of people using a standard shift column or using an aftermarket one. The OD switch is included on some aftermarket shifters but I was thinking of a mustang, thunderbird or other OEM shifter that uses an od button such as my Mark 8 console.I don't know if the hole is already there but if not could probably be added relatively easily. My big question and reason for not having it done so far is the linkage situation. Has anyone done this and what did you do or use to make it work correctly? Thank you all. G

Ok, Im going ahead with this. I made a paper mock up based on the measurements on the B & M Shifter Installation page. I was pretty surprised how big this thing turned out. I made the mockup with the shifter handle in the forward park position, and all the way back in low1 It will fit nicely, however the factory driver seat wont be able to slide forward. So either the extra molded in piece in between the seats will need removed and flattened out, or the seats will need to be replaced with standard buckets. Or I guess I just dont ever slide the drivers seat forward....
Then I have to figure out something to cover up the exposed silver thingy...

Ill post more as it becomes a reality, oh and one more thing...when the cash starts flowing in as well.

Check the pix

Go for it! I like the idea. I was wondering if it has any advantages over column shifter

if you already have buckets, the floor shifter and console from a ford focus is an easy swap and everything bolts up with no modification.
