Default Driveshaft diagnosing question

Hey guys, i did an oil change in the truck and checked everything else underneath and noticed that the driveshaft has a little bit of "play" in it. it'll move from side to side about an inch or so. i'm not familiar with differentials and driveshaft parts so is this bad/normal? i'm assuming the worst.

If you can actually move it side to side an inch you've got both U joints ready to fall out, but if you mean you can twist it back and forth an inch, with the trans in park or manual in gear you still have failing U joints. If the trans is in nutural, auto or std, that much twist may be normal in the rear end, depending on miles.

your right it twists it doesn't move side to side . i always leave the truck in neutral with the parking brake on. so i'm guessing it's ok. Thanks for the info
