Default input shaft repair sleeve

I had a clutch replaced today in a 2003 ranger 4x2 3.0l. The mechanic said that my pilot bearing was toast and and heavily scored the input shaft. My question is whether this can be fixed with an input shaft repair sleeve in an adedquate manner. I have 113K on the tranny and most used ones are in the 500 to 700 range it seems for ones with similiar mileage. Or, can the input shaft be replaced for less?

You said you had the clutch replaced, does that mean he put in a new pilot bearing and reinatalled the trans? if so he must not have been too worried about it, have you driven it, does it make any noise. That bearing should fit the input shaft without any pressure to install, but its there to keep the input shaft inline with the clutch disk, if its worn real bad, when you push the clutch down, the disk can get off center, causing the input shaft rear bearing to fail. The input shaft can be replaced lots cheaper than buying a used trans.

He doesn't usually work on transmissions. He put it back together as he needed the room in his shop and said the input shaft needed replaced or a different transmission as soon as possible.

Thanks for your response. How many hours should it take to replace the input shaft once the tranny is out?

Looks like I am going to have a hard time wanting to find a tech to do this other than a ford place.
