why is my clutch hydraulic line leaking
ok i gotta give ya some background
my slave cylinder went out about 2 years ago and i had it replaced along with a new hydraulic line... well the slave went out again so i decided to tackle the job this time... so i bought a new slave cylinder and master cylinder, but the hydraulic line still looked good so i decided to reuse it.... well i hooked the line up to the new master and bled like the instructions said... then i installed the master cylinder and guided the line back down to the transmission... well when i hooked the line up to the new slave cylinder, it started to drip out fluid, so i disconnected it and tried to connect it again hoping it was a fluke, but no, it was still leaking at the connection....... so i grudgingly took the master cylinder and line back out of the truck to figure out what is up.... any ideas what is causing it too leak? obviously its not sealing when it connects, and i didnt put a new oring on the end of it because the one on it still looked good... also when i connect it to the old slave cylinder on the bench, it doesn't leak

Re: why is my clutch hydraulic line leaking
k so i knew i couldnt sleep without trying the new oring, so i went back out to the garage and re-bled the master and re-installed everything with a new oring this time.... the first time i connected the line this time it kinda got wet around the connection, but no major drippage.... but i was still concerned so i disconnected it and then reattached it, and this time it seemed to stay dry, so i gravity bled the slave and then tested the master with a screwdriver and it is nice and tight, and when i checked under the truck there weren't any puddles..... sooooooooo..... i think the new oring solved the problem, but here's something interesting... on the slave cylinder where the line connects, the connection on the old cylinder is like 2mm or so deeper than the new one i bought.... so i was kinda thinking the line wasn't going in deep enough to get a good connection or was just not mating right... are the new hydraulic lines they sell supposed to be universal, i mean i would assume all the different companies that sell these components would still have to be compatible, right? if im wrong, or u think this line won't stay leakfree from what i've told ya let me know...

Re: why is my clutch hydraulic line leaking
FAIL.... hooked the clutch rod up and depressed the petal and instantly it starts to leak at the connection to the slave cylinder ok so like i said before, it looks like my hydraulic hoses male connector is not made for the type of female slave cylinder connection.... IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT I MEAN PLEASE HELP.... SUPER FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW... only other option i have is to take the old one into the parts store and see if they have slave cylinder that has a more similar connection... i can't believe that the damn hydraulic hose would have a different connection for different slave cylinders... but guess i learned my lesson

Re: why is my clutch hydraulic line leaking
ok well figured i'd update on my progress.... well the lines do indeed vary between companies.... at least the connection at the slave cylinder does... so i found that the brand i bought had a identical design to a dorman slave cylinder, which i could buy a line indvidually for... so i bought the dorman slave cylinder line and it worked with my slave cylinder so i bled the system and put it all back together and was able to shift into first and reverse and roll a little in the garage to check it all out, but since i have to buy a new exhaust, its a little loud right now so i will have to take it out tomorrow afternoon to give it a real test... but so far so good....

Re: why is my clutch hydraulic line leaking
SUCCESS took it for a ride around town today, and everything worked like it should.... now im taking it to the muffler shop to get a custom exhaust installed.... guy at the shop said he could put in a section underneath the transmission that bolts up, so it would be easier to access the transmission in the future.... just hoping this slave cylinder lasts a few years

Re: why is my clutch hydraulic line leaking
Out of curiosity, to access the hydraulic connection to the clutch slave cylinder, did you have to remove the transmission to get to that?
thanks...

Re: why is my clutch hydraulic line leaking
well on mine it was accessible without dropping anything, just might have to jack the truck up so you can get your arms in there if u crawl under its on the driver side of the transmission, its pretty obvious where it is once you look... just make sure to use a disconnect tool instead of plyers, the plyers can tear the plastic piece up.... a wrench might work it you find one the right size
