Re: Replaced Clutch now won't shift
I'd assume he disconnected the line to the slave cylinder and he did try to bleed the system.

Re: Replaced Clutch now won't shift
@Lariat, its stuck in neutral right now. If I work the stick it goes into 4th.
@stateranger, I did the pumping my self, and when I needed the pedal held down I used a brace between the pedal and the seat.

That's where you went wrong I think. You're supposed to have someone push the pedal to the floor, and then slowly open the bleed screw and close it before the fluid stops flowing. Anytime fluid isn't being pushed out, air goes in.

I was aware of that while I was doing that. The pedal was held down with a brace while I opened and closed the valve. I did not wait until the flow would stop to close the valve. I will have to try again once I'm off shift.

Re: Replaced Clutch now won't shift
yes, you need two people to do the job. It was my bad that i thought the hydraulic system was untouched. I typically do clutches with the engine out. (i re-gasket the engines when i buy and sell)

Re: Replaced Clutch now won't shift
So I will have to fix this. It turns out by re-reading the manual, I missed the step of putting the pressure plate under a press and ensureing is was properly adjusted. I will have to un-install the whole mess, and try again.
At least I get to buy a small-ish hydraulic press. I got that going for me though.

If you don't want to buy a press, you can use the bottle jack that comes with the truck.
When I did mine I placed the pressure plate on a piece of wood underneath the front crossmember of the truck, then I used a socket or the old throwout bearing to put inbetween the pressure plate fingers and the bottle jack and started jacking until I could adjust it.

I know this is probably in the wrong place but I am doing a 5 speed swap to my 97 Mazda b4000 but am having trouble finding a clutch pedal and the cylinders needed ( slave and master) I came across a b3000 at a you-pull yard and was wondering if it would be compatible with my truck. Or is there anywhere else I should check

Re: Replaced Clutch now won't shift
Upon further inspection of the literature which came with the replacement clutch, and visual inspection of the pressure plate through the bottom of the transmission housing I have found that I do need to remove the whole lot and make adjustments to the pressure plate. The factory plate was a self adjusting plate and my replacement is not. So, tomorrow I begin again. Woo hoo.

It all ended up being the replacement clutch. I had inadvertently bought an OEM adjustable pressure plate instead of the OEM self adjusting. Got it all back together with no issues.
