i dont know about the manual part, but i know that the Rangers and explorers and broncos all have pretty much identical parts if you get them close enough in production year.

Im pretty sure manual ones will work, and i am also pretty sure the explorer ones (whether man or auto) will work, im just not sure on the years. I think its 91-94 explorers that will work, i would just rather have confirmation on it before i spend money!

I bought manual hubs for my 97, best way to go. I got the whole thing including the socket, the spindle nut conversion and hubs shipped to my door for 230 bucks. I'd rather buy new than used here. Get on Warn's website to find what matches would be my best opinion if you are going to go the used route. Or call you local Ford service department.

The only thing you need to watch for when buying used hubs is making sure you get hubs from a TTB D35 not the smaller D28 (doesnt matter whether its a BII, Ranger or Exploder).
There are a few options for manual hubs on Rangers/Exploders. WARN, MileMarker, and the OEM Ford manuals (made by WARN). No matter what brand you go with you will also need to get the spindle nut conversion kit because the manual hub wont fit over the factory nut. There were also HD WARN hubs made for the Jeep rear D35 full float kit, they look identical to the regular hubs, but the cast housing is much more dense and can take a beating. These hubs are a direct replacement for the regular hubs.

Is there a special tool that needs to be used to take out the hubs?

Not the hubs, but there is a special socket you need to get the nut off behind it. And another socket you are going to need if you switch to manuals. When I converted to manuals I beat the old nut off with a chisel and a hammer and just bought the new socket for the spindle nut conversion.

It's pretty simple. When I ordered my hubs it came with instructions. Just basically pop everything off the front spindle till you get to the nut on the end of it. You remove that and replace it with a spindle nut conversion kit for the manual hubs, then put everything back on. It took about an hour and a half for me to do both sides.
