Exclamation How to remove Clutch Push Rod - Urgent

I'm replacing the brake/clutch pedal assembly on my 2004, and I've been following the writeup on the forum.. I cannot for the life of me unsnap the clutch push rod from the master cylinder. Does anyone have any insight? Is there a circlip or a quick disconnect tool or something that I need, or does it just snap out?

Any help much appreciated.. I'm on foot until I can get this done!

You can try to turn the "not sure what its called" But at the firewall, there is a square hole. The piece that goes thru there is also square. You turn it 45* and it will pull thru the hole. Unhook the rod from the pedal, you may have better luck doing it this way. A pair of snap ring pliers should unlcip the snap ring

----------

mine broke it was not a bad thing tho. I then used a rod from an f-150. Ground it down a little and was able to bring the pedal higher! (im short) If it does break, it does not "have" to be clipped in. It can sit there just fine and you wont have any problems, unless you lift the pedal up

From everything I've read, once the pushrod is installed in the master cylinder during install, it's in there to stay. Afterward you have to deal with the master cylinder and pushrod as an assembly.

My experience is with a 1996, though.

Watch this guy, he's really informative. Helped me figure out how to bleed my system. I didn't unhook my master cylinder and bench bleed it but it may help you anyway.

Thanks for the quick replies. Sounds like I need to pick up a new master cylinder and just go ahead and replace that too since I'll prolly end up braking the rod. Funny how one repair can lead to several others

Thanks for the video link, Austin.. good info.

On my 93 stx I took the rod off the petal and removed the cyl and rod togather, but the little clip that holds the rod to the petal is a one time clip. It breaks removing it, there is a black and white chip, gotta have the same color as the one that broke, at ford it costs $9.00.
