Unhappy 91 2wd ranger, A4LD auto trans problems.

I have been having what seems like a linkage problem. It has this problem one time and then maybe not for several weeks. I put it into gear and it goes into gear fine, but when you start out theres a clunking like sound which seems like its not fully in gear,(automatic trans), mainly when I'm taking off, it doesn't sound right like its slipping , but not, like no power, but after 2nd gear driving 27mph and higher it drives fine. Also sometimes I will put it in reverse, it goes into gear, but hit the gas and nothing. If I put it in drive then rev again and apply a little gas it may enguage suddenly with a clunking sound. I did have shifting problems this summer, I replaced the govenor a few months ago with the steel weight, also the intermedate servo and the od servo, and it worked fine. but I have always had this other problem no and then. also linkage looks fine, pass gear set ok, fluid changed 2-3 times + filter, and cooler. (I wonder if there is some sensor that can cause this)? or if I just need a rebuild, and where can I get a rebuild for under $ 500.00 I don't have much money and its a 1991,+ Its winter now here in Macomb michigan.

Default

my buddies trailblazer did the same exact thing, and now it is sitting in the shop waiting to be rebuilt. The Mechanic said that if he would have brought it in when it first started doin it that it was a loose cable but now it has to be rebuilt.

Default RE-trans problem

What cable was it , and do you know how I can tell if thats it, because today it worked fine, maybe because I did'nt use reverse at first, I started out in 2nd and went to overdrive. (automatic trans) hopefully I can catch it before it does any damage. However I have been under looking at the linkage and I did'nt notice anything loose, but the cable wasn't stright on , it was on a little angle and nothing looked bent.
