Question Loud Humming noise from my front wheels?

I had noticed over the summer a slight humming sound coming from my front wheels. Now that the snow and ice have come and I've been driving with 4x4 alot more...the humming has gotten alot louder. Anybody know what the problem could be here?

Alright my mechanic friend did tell me he thought I needed new bearings up front...I think my 4x4 never disengaged the other day which was why it was so much louder...it never use to be loud while driving in 4x4 could that be something in addition to the bearings?

Well I guess I shoulda took action sooner...I was driving to work this morning and it was icy out so I was driving in 4x4. After about 25 miles of travel a loud thunk and grind came from the front end. When I got pulled over there was smoke coming from the left front wheel well. I took it outta four and the grinding kinda went away but you can still hear it. I think something expensive mighta broke
