1998 Ford Ranger Tranny Problem?
I have a 1998 Ford Ranger, and I believe the tranny is going out, but I have herd from my cousin that it could just need a fluid change. Ok here is the problem: When put into Drive, and once it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, it takes a second to lock in and when it does, it gives off a pretty loud/large clunk. Also, when put into Reverse, it takes a couple of seconds to lock into it, and put off a pretty large/loud clunk if it is getting any torque at all. My cousin said that if the tranny fluid is "BURNT" it will cause it to do that, but when I checked it the other day, it wasn't BRAND NEW but it was red and was not burnt. So if you could give me any help to fix it before it really does go out, I am going to try and change the fluid in it this weekend when I have time to do it, along with the money. Well thanks for all your help, and PLEASE no stupid answers. Thanks again!
Yes, the UJ are in good condition, and when it clunks, it is from the tranny finally kicking the selected gear into position, and it jerks the truck a little, but if I am not in a hurry it isint too bad, but if I have to go, I give it a little gas when I select the gear, and it gives off a good clunk.
