Aluminum driveshaft
The driveshaft that came on my truck is steel. It was rusted up pretty good when I got it (Minnesota truck,) so I cleaned up and painted it. It's starting to look ugly under there again & I was at the local Pic n Pull yesterday lookin' for an aluminum one that would fit from an explorer or a ranger. I found 2 on rangers, but they were 2wd (different driveshaft.) Did the Aluminum driveshafts only come on 2wd trucks? Does anyone with a 4wd ranger have an aluminum rear driveshaft under it?

Re: Aluminum driveshaft
The aluminum came on 2wd trucks, they're lighter (duh) and not recommended for 4x4 trucks since they're hollow.

Re: Aluminum driveshaft
Good lord! Could you imagine how heavy a drive shaft would be if it was solid??? You would need a fork lift to change or repair it!

Re: Aluminum driveshaft
I was always under the assumption that 4x4s didn't get the aluminum. probably cause i've never seen one around here.
but that is pretty interesting.
