Default problem with brake shift interlock ?

have A 2001 ford ranger and im having probems shifting it frm park to any gear. if i go nder the dash and adjust the indicator needle adjuster i can get it to go into gear after a few minutes of fiddling with it. after reading a few things in suspect it is the brake-shift interlock actuator. my question is..... is there a way to bypass the interlock temporary till i can get time and money to do it correctly. in my own opinion i think its a stupid setup anyways. thanks for any help.

On my Escort, that was controlled by a solenoid near the shifter. Not sure exactly how it's set up on the Ranger, but I think the fix is within your steering column. I do recall seeing a thread about this on TRS recently. I'll look for the thread and post the link if nobody here has posted the fix by then.

Not positive if this is the thread I was thinking of, but it might be worth looking at.

I was sitting in my truck on break at work today and I thought about this thread. Sure enough, if you turn the key one notch forward, you can shift through the gears without your foot on the brake. This allows you to put it in neutral, start the truck, then put it in drive. This does not work with the key in any other position.

Not exactly a solution, but it's the "temporary bypass" you were looking for.
