Default Gear ratio

How do I know what axle I have on my truck and what gears I'm Running. My dad puts gears in for a living and has a set of 4.10's but im not sure what gears I have

on the drivers side door seal there should be an axle code. return back to us with that code and we can tell you.. or just give us ur VIN number

So could i put a 4.10 in it. and if i did what would that do

first off, make sure those 4.10 gears are for the ford 7.5 and not an 8.8. if you put the gears in, you can increase your tire size. heres a chart from TRS

would i be better off to just get an 8.8 axle with 4.10 gears, because i want to put a limited slip in but i think it will be hard to find one for a 7.5

ya, you can pick up a 4.10 8.8 with 10" brakes for like $200-250, search www.car-part.com, then you can put whatever locker/limited slip you want to put in and have no down time on your truck till you do the swap
