Question rearend gears.

hi i was wondering if someone could help me out. im just looking for now. but i was wondering is there any way to swap out the factory gears in the rear. to bettter all around gears? something to pulling but also for speed. i no my truck ant much but anything small would help. and i would like to eventually get a lil bit more power out of her...i dont wana do any modifications to her. and i soon will be needing new clutch. didnt know if any thing i could do to that ether...not loooking to spend alota money etherr wen i do this. thanks

iv got a 94 ford ranger. most baisic truck u can ever get. no power stearing. manual locks and windows. got a JVC KDR200, with a pair of Pyle 6" X 8" Blue Label 3-Way Speakers and wired an antennna. its a 2.3L 4 banger, with a 5 speed manual transmission. it had 117,400 miles on it wen i got it. i plan on dropping it a few inches. in the procces of repainting the interior. i want new headlights and taillights and paint my factory rims black. plan on getting a cheap sub and put in it.

you can swap gears for 300-500 dollars I recommend the yukon gears

qhat gears u have now and what do u wann go to

a shop would charge close to 1K to change them

first find out what gears you have CLICK HERE then determine what you then wanna swap them with.

Yes you can do them your self. You will need to know what your doing or you can screw things up pretty easy.

That's what I meant. Just wanted to confirm that he knows what he's doing. I know there are guys who can do just about anything, but still won't touch gears.

When I wanted to goto 4.10's . I thought of doing it myself but I didnt have the right tools so I just swapped the axle with one that had them.

I have friends who have done it before they say it's about a 7 on a scale from 1-10

You just gotta know what your doing to get the gears aligned and meshed right

ya i think your cheapest and easiest option is to just swap in an axle with the gears you want in it already, you can find axles for like $250

swap the whole axle unless you know what to do, i have done many rear end i know how to do them and still would rather not, I have all the tools and still tell guy to take it in

dam...no i dont realy know wat im doing..but there is a class in my school for shit like that so i figured maybe i could take it in and learn. but what all would be involved with switching the rear axle?

Find a axle using car-part.com

Depending what you got you would just unbolt the u bolts disconnect the e-brake and lower the axle out on a jack

O ya you have to remove the shock's from the axle also

The hardest thing to get off is the e-brake cable at the connection just under the driver door
