Default banging in and out of 4-wheel drive

i have a 2004 ford ranger making a humming noise from the drivers side front axle. when driving it sounds like a bearing hum i changed the front bearing because it was bad but the noise is still there it becomes very pronounced in 4-wheel drive and it bangs into 4-wheel when i put it on and pulls to the left .when i take it out of 4-wheel it goes a little bit then bangs loudly again and comes out of 4-wheel drive i topped off the xfer case oil it has a small leak in the front cover gasket i need to repair still when i figure out this problem

How are your tires? Are they all the same size? Do you rotate them properly? The slightest size difference will cause problems.

And are you talking about shifting into 4-high, and on the fly?

Shifting into 4-low will cause a bit of a bang/lurch, but that's normal.

Might be a problem with your t-case innards. I hope not.
