Ben's 03 4.0 4x4 has one. Ben's 02 4.0 4x4 was steel. Marie's 08 4.0 4x4 has one. Beard's 03 4.0 4x4 has(*had) one. They're out there. My little brothers 01 4cyl 2wd is steel. My 01 4.0 4x4 is steel. Just a few examples there. I know I've seen conflicting everything at junkyards. lol. I think it's such a variable that it's a toss up as to what got it and what didn't.

It'd be interesting to see what trucks got them and why.. My friends 2004 XLT extended cab, 4.0, 2 wheel drive has an aluminum shaft from the factory...

My standard cab Edge 4.0 4x4 is steel..

My 01 and Marie's 08 were both built in the same plant. I have steel. she has alum. Granted, 7 year difference.

now if you have a 4x4 with steel driveshafts and you want aluminium do you have to change them both at the same time? or can you wait to change the front or do you even have to change the front?

so i just looked at mine and its rusty looking so im guessing its a steel shaft.. mines a 2wd 3.0 so im sure a aluminum would help it move better... is it hard to take driveshafts out and replace it? There particular steps that ae important? I may go a junkyard later this week.

Front shafts are totally out of the question here.....don't mess wit hthe front cuz there's no alum replacement...imo it'd be a hell of a waste of money to get one turned and welded up for you. lol. Could buy a couple tires for how much a shop would charge. lol.

Rear alums is what we're talking about.

4 12pt 12mm bolts on the rear axle, then slide it out of the trans. Can't get much easier than that.

The only Ranger I've never seen a aluminum drive shaft in is a reg cab short bed. Which is why I'm just gonna have to get one cut down.
