Default Newly installed used transmission in Ford Ranger acts like the one that went bad.

Is this one bad too? A mechanic installed a used transmission in my 1994 Ford Ranger. He said that it might be slipping because it needs resetting and had me unhook the battery & rehook it. Then he said that he might have to do an adjustment on it, but has not returned to to the adjustment. He also said the truck needs to be driven to get the newly stalled transmission conditioned. (It had been setting a lone time)

He also said that I was driving in the wrong drive gear; I should have been driving in the second drive on the wheel, not the first one with the circle around it. That gear was for the highway when going about 50 plus miles an hour. Driving in that gear could damage the transmission and cause the slipping.

Another mechanic told me that the newly installed transmission should be adjusted immediately and that I am damaging it by driving without the adjustment. He added that after two adjustments if it is still slipping, the transmission is bad. Also, it does not matter which gear (the first drive or second) I drive in in the city.

Please help. Did this first mechanic install a bad transmission and is stalling for the warranty--one month to expire?

you bought a trans expecting it to work well and it doesnt and has a warrenty then the mechanic should replace it or give your money back.I parked my ranger for 3 years and when i got it out it ran fine.Things that are running thru my mind are did he put a trans in or did he just adjust your old one a little and charge you for another one.whenever i have work done and i know the part has to be replaced i will mark it with a punch or scribe my initials in the part so i can tell if it was replaced or just doctored up,go get it fixed before the warrenty runs out
