Will 3.50 gears be good for my ford ranger?
Would 3.50 gears work out with a 32 inch tire? I just recently blew out my rear end and i wanted something that might give me a little more power and possibly better gas mileage, my truck was getting around 13 miles to the gallon.

you can't have both, low numbers mean better mileage and high numbers mean better power and acceleration..
Ideally for best mileage, you want around 2000 rpm at 65 mph..
you can use this gear calculator to figure which one works best for you..

I'd say a 4.10 gear would be your best bet. Around town your gonna be giving it more gas to get the truck moving with less gear. If you do more highway then a 3.73 or a 3.55 would be fine.
When I had my '96 4 cyl with 3.55's and stock tires I always thought it need 4.10's.

Yep 4.10s is going to be your best bet unless you do all highway. With 32s and 4.10 gears I pull 18 city and 20 highway.

OP: What's your engine and tranny combo? And what's your current gear ratio.
The 4.0l can push 33s with 4.10s easy
The 3.0l needs deeper then 4.10s to get out of it's own way.
Randy's Ring & Pinion. RPM Calculator.
Play around on Randy's to figure out what's gonna be best for your engine and general use.

i agree, if you have the 3.0 then 4.56 would not be a bad choice, that motor requires more rpms to make its power. any other engine 4.10's minimum.

I helped build a jeep wrangler with a buddy. He's got the 4.0l I6, 4.88 gears, and he's only pushin 33's. The jack ass can leave me in the dust on the high way.
OP: You'll get the urge to go bigger sooner or later. Why not gear for it now and not have to shell out every time you step up a tire size?
With a 3.0 you can run 5.89:1's in the diffs and still keep your engine in a happy place.
