I have it out of the truck, and if I put it in any gear I can not turn it by hand. does than mean it is broken or is it normal?

What made you remove it? Assuming it is a manual transmission, the input shaft should spin freely in neutral. In gear it shouldn't move (by hand).

What led you to take it out?
Is it a manual or auto?
Had a 93 that needed a clutch.
