The p-brake cables on an Exploder axle w/ disc are shorter than the Ranger cables, so they wont reach. They might be long enough on a stock or lowered truck, but on a lifted truck there is no way they would reach.

Your Exploder axle has discs right?

That would make sense that using the stock bracket would work on a lowered truck, and I'm not planning on going much higher with my truck, mostly because I drive 16 hours to get back to Washington from Montana.

I like your bracket PlumCrazy, that was kinda what I was looking at too with the cable if I needed to. What year exploder axle are you using?

I think it was a 98 Exploder Sport, but I am not sure. After 95 they are all pretty much the same. Look for a 4x4 because they normally have L/S and lower gears. I ended up with 3.73's, then I found an axle with 4.10's the next week, but of course I already had my 3.73 axle under the truck.

My axle is out of a '96, has 3.73s (same as stock), l/s and discs, and I guess being lowered is what made it fit. Since the Expo is spring under it was straight bolt in for me.

Thats probably why, when the perches are flipped that probably lowers the axle enough that the cables become too short.

Thanks for posting those pics, plum. I've got all the expo brake parts that I need to do my swap(save for new pads and shoes). But after working on Grant's cobra's, I think I'm gonna hold off for cobra's and the currie bracket(i've got a 31spline fx4 axle).

I would want the axle with 3.73s since thats what I have (I think). I drive a lot of freeway and dirt but I want the better mileage more, 3.73s give me the best of both worlds. I spent last night pulling out another Ranger and a Toyota that got stuck at the lake out here, these gears are awesome for what I need. I don't mind converting my axle to discs or going to the explorer, I just don't want to lose the limited slip. I love showing up lifted trucks with this truck just cuz I get better traction.

Look for a 4x4 Exploder for a donor, because almost all of the 4x4's came with L/S.

I forget where it's labeled on the rig what gearing the axles are? And does anyone know where I can get some aftermarket diff covers? I'm tired of the stock ones and I want some more cooling in the diffs.

If any of you guys end up doing this mod with the Cobra rotors and calipers, then I'd be interested in knowing what issues you run into with 15" wheels..

I'm running the Cepek DC-1 wheels in a 15" x 8" and I'm curious about the Cobra brake parts not fitting inside the wheel.

They do. If they didn't, I wouldn't even be considering them. Plus, Explorer rear rotors are the same diameter as the cobras....and expos come with 15's and tons of others are running 15's with expo rears.

I found out that 14" steel whees wont fit over my Expo rear.lol I needed some wheels to roll on, but they wouldnt fit. I also found out that stock 15" RBV steel wheels wont fit over WARN lock outs.

I've got the Warn Hubs on mine, they work great with my stock wheels lol. I want some black steels, you might just have to go in to a tire store and ask them what you are going to need to clear the hub. I have some buddies that work in tire shops that really help me with that kind of stuff. I wonder if my stock wheels will fit when I do the brake conversion? Anyone of you know?

^^Should i they're 15's. You're new wheels yeah, definately.

I think it's safe to say if it's a RWD aftermarket wheel, it'll have the proper sized hole for the hub. Most if not all are 3.33" hub holes.
