Question will it work?

hi, i have a 2001 reg cab 2wd with a a 3.0 v6 and auto trans. i have been told that a rear end assembly from a same year 4 wd explorer will bolt right into to place without and mods except for making new brake lines due to the explorer having rear disc unlike my ranger which has drums. is this true ? the reason i want to do this is that i am running 31 inch all terrain tires on it and i would like to have the limited slip unit and gear ratios ( told should be 4.10 ) and the disc brakes would be nice on all 4 corners. thanks for reading and any info is appreciated

For any explorer rear swap on a ranger, you'll need to weld on new spring perches and shock tabs.

The reason is because explorer leaf springs are BELOW the axle, where as a Rangers springs are ABOVE the axle. Also, the spring plates on an Explorer have an integrated shock mount that will not work on a ranger. So some welding is required to bolt in an expo rear end.

4.10 expo axles are kind of harder to find...I've only ever seen 2 in my years of yard hunting.

Check out www.car-part.com

An alternative if you're only after discs would be to bolt on 95-04 Mustang GT or Cobra rear brakes. Below is a link to all the info you'd need.

Like Shane said you would need to new shock perches. Besides welding new shock perches the mod is pretty easy.
