Angry 1994 2.3L 5-speed slave cylinder replacement?

Hi guys -

Symptoms started this morning at the gas station... Parked the truck, went in, got a drink, came back out, backed up, then when I went to put it into gear it wouldn't shift into any gear I tried.

So I pumped the clutch a few times and managed to get her into gear - was fine the whole way to work, then after work, again, no clutch disengagement (when I started my truck [was in first gear]) with the clutch to the floor, she bogged out and died trying to run and pull the truck at the same time (parking brake was engaged).

So anyway, I limped her to a shop, and these two Mexicans that were working there said the slave cylinder (I could see fluid slowly dripping from between the transmission and the engine).

- Is this a guarantee that the slave cylinder is the culprit? Could it be the master?

Anyway, the shop I stopped at quoted me $600 for parts and labor on it, but I really just stopped to see what was wrong, since I was on my way home from work with no clutch - knew it was something hydraulic. Their slave that they quoted me was like $20 more than a lifetime warrantied slave from Auto-Zone lolol.

Anyway, if it is for sure the slave, does anybody know of any good walkthrough for replacing the slave?

Thanks for your time!

Matt

Ah, never mind - obviously not the master as that is not internal down there on the trans. Grrr lol.

Any advice would be appreciated though. :]

What do you mean "you would second master cylinder". Do you mean that you agree that it couldn't be the master causing a leak between the trans and the motor?

...and I know I haven't had good luck with the truck. The moron P.O. replaced the clutch, but not the slave cylinder; what a moron.

Anybody know of a decent walk-through? I imagine it's pretty strait-forward though. What all do I actually have to remove?

----------

Also, could the brake fluid from the slave cylinder get on my clutch and ruin it if I top it off and drive it until I can get to the repairs?

it could possibly get on the clutch but unlikely. its behind the clutch so unless u like to go fast in reverse it will have a hard time gettin there.

i recommend the slave cylinder from advance auto parts. buy it online and picl up in store using the discount codes: p20, visa one of those will give u the biggest discount.

the replace is straight forward. 8 bolts i belive on the motor/trans connection. undo the hy draulic line and the shifter lever. and bam it comes out of rocking it backwards.

the slave cylinder has like 2 bolts holding it on. just i reccomend bench bleeding the slave cylinder first.

i,v pulled my tranny out of my 2wd 94 witht eh 2.3l twice i can pull it and have it back in, in under 2 hrs thats including putting in a new slave cylinder

Mind driving up to Fox Lake, WI and giving me a hand with it? lol. I have a gravel driveway, so I'd have to do it in the street (only 5 houses on my street though so no problem). Don't have a tranny jack either.

Curious about something;
I read somewhere online that you can actually just unbolt the trans and rotate it to gain access to the slave cylinder - is that true?

Just got another quote from a different local shop and they only want like $350 installed.

The part from A.Z. is only like $45 bucks with a lifetime warranty.

Just took a few photos. Looks like the leak is coming from the slave - verify that's what it looks like to you guys? (my first hydraulic clutch assy.)

typical ford slavy

its toast.

the one from advance is billet aluminum with a dust boot on the spring to keep crap off of it which is wat ruins the stock one cause dirt eats the seals.

and no you cant roatate it you have to pull it all the way out. they are light enough that you could lay under it and let it fall onto your chest with you holding it.

i'v done it that way and in a full service shop with a lift. the lift is the easiest but still its not complicated.

i say offer a friend food for a day and replace it.

duralast is good but it dont have the dust boot over the spring which is where the dirt gets in to ruin the seals thus causing the "blowout"

get this one

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...1251457977____

put it in the cart and use the promo codes: VISA and P20

it will cheaper than 49.99 and u can pick it up in store.

----------

with promo code:VISA the price is 39.99

i swear by perfection clutch parts A.K.A. ZOOM performance clutches.

you wont be dissapointed trust me
