Default 4x4 conversion

Has anyone converted a 2x4 to a 4x4? i have a 2x4 edge with torsion bars... i know it would be better to buy a new truck but i am really not in that position. is there any kits for this? thanks for the info.

you would probably need (at least, Im probably leaving a few things off) 2 new axles, a t-case, a new driveshaft, and a new tranny. Oh, and a crapton of wires, and a new bezel with a 4wd switch.

oh, and none of our junkyards have any good trucks with this stuff in them lol

Need all that plus more
It would actually be easier to do a 4wd swap where it is a manual t-case instead of the switch

I have converted 2 of them. You will need all the parts: 4wd Trans(or convert yours to 4wd), transfer case, both driveshafts, front axle, front spindles, wheel bearings, rotors, and maybe a frame mount depending on your truck. Electrically you have 2 options. You can add the wiring to your harness or replace your trucks dash harness. I've done both. It it easiest to just change the harness but they can be expensive. The one problem I ran into on one truck is that most common 4x4 gem modules are for 4wabs and a lot of 2wd trucks are rabs. If your truck doesn't have 4wabs it might be hard to find the right gem. You will need the gem, 4wd cluster, and radio bezel. Another option would be to install a manual transfer case to bypass the wiring headache.
