Do you have 2 or 4 wheel drive? Can you do your own gear work? If not, and you have a 2wd, it might be easier to take the whole damn axle out of a Ranger with 4.10's.

Duh, I should have realized that you had a 7.5 since you had 3.73 gearing. But as mentioned before, it would probably be cheaper to swap in an 8.8 axle with that gearing in it already unless you can do your own gear changes as shops do charge a good amount of $ for regearing.

Actually....most 07+ trucks are 3.73. The only ones to get 4.10 standard are the Fx4 models(and the 2.3L/autos). All others were optional and from the looks of ALOT of forum members with 07+, even 4x4, most didn't check that 4.10 box.

Rex, honestly, doing your own gears requires about $600 in specialty tools, a $20 book from Randy's ringpinion.com, and on top of that the parts. And if it's not setup right, you'll be stranded on the side of the road somewhere. I suggest the axle swap route not only from a money standpoint, but from a do-it-yourself standpoint. You can use ANY ranger rear axle from any year. It'll bolt right up. I'd look for a complete axle with low miles...and why not bump it up to an 8.8 and limited slip while you're at it!? If you bump up to an 8.8, you're also bumping up your rear brake size up to 10" too. You're currently 9".

Check out http://www.car-part.com It's how I found my new engine. It's a online database of a bunch of junkyards and their inventorys. Prices for rear axles can range from $100 to $400 depending on yard and mileage. So go check it out.

About $180 for the ring and pinion set, and then expect to pay anywhere from $250 to $400 for the installation.

most shops will recomend a full rebuild and that will cost you a lot more. swaping in an 8.8 is a great idea. its a much better rear end

Some 7.5 have 10" brakes but I agree swap the whole axle. Not to thread jack but does the RABS sensor on top of the pumpkin from the 7.5 swap to the 8.8?
