Ok, my 2nd silly newbie question:
Now before you guys laugh and call me names, remember, my whole life has been rear wheel drive hotrods...I'm a 4X4 virgin.
Once I turn the knob to 4WH or 4WH, how can I tell it's actually working? I have a powertrain warranty and want to be sure the 4WD is indeed working.
thanks
Rich

ya but it dont mean the 4x4 works if the light comes on. i would find a dirt field and set it and see if it tends to lurch a little at a crawl in 4wl in a tight turn. dont do this on pavement or concrete only dirt or sand some place soft! so you dont kill you t-case or front end ok. thats one way, is it the right way cant say but its how i have tested mine in the past.

also make sure you find a dirt road or somewhere to to engage the 4x4 everyonce in a while to keep the tranfer case from locking up

You can shift into 4-hi on the fly at up to about 45 mph.

Move the 4WD control between 2WD and 4x4 HIGH at a stop or any forward speed up to 55mph (88 km/h).

Is there another page? I don't see how they could leave out shifting from 2wd to 4-hi.

The next pages talk about driving in mud snow and sand
Only thing that says anything about speed is
Quote:
Do not spin the wheels at over 56 km/h (35 mph). The tires may
fail and injure a passenger or bystander.

Oh well.
Anyway, the Rangers ability to shift on the fly - into 4high - is pretty common knowledge....or so I thought.
