Question Differential question...

So i was thinking about changing out the gear oil in my punkin and have a question or two....there is no problem back there except that i notice a little seepage but not enough to be concerned with.

Just wanted something to do and also help keep the truck in good shape.

My axle code is 87 and according to the the chart that's not limited slip but when i read my owners guide for the truck it says use 80w-90 and 4oz. of friction modifier for Traction-Lok axles.

I removed the plug just to see if it was low and it's not at all and it's not super dirty i mean it doesn't look like used motor oil or anything.

i bought 3 jugs of Lucas gear oil and it says no additive needed for limited slip axles.

so my question would be...should I buy and add the friction modifier or should i just leave the damn thing alone before i screw something up?

Default Re: Differential question...

If you have an open rear, you do not need friction modifier.
