I went to pismo beach this weekend used 4x4 on the sand to get to our camp spot. Now we are packing up and descovered that its stuck. Ive called two mechanics for advice tryed all the tricks- still wont get out, and i live 6 hours away . Also it is a push button 4x4 1991 ranger
Id apreciate any advice. This is very frusterating. Thanks very much

cant you manually pop it off by hand if you open the transfer case?

If you have manual hubs, you can manually yank it out of 4low. HOWEVER. DO NOT hit your shift motor with anything. You will do like I did, and break it. If you have auto hubs, you are gonna have to replace your motor or take apart yours and clean it.

Also, you may just have some junk in there. Kill the battery and let it sit overnight. Dont know why, but it let me shift out in the morning. My motor had a bad connection and a broken magnet.

I had the same problem my first night with my 94. Turns out I just needed to depress the clutch AND brake while stopped, THEN hit the button to disengage 4lo. Well it worked for me anyway!

thanks everyone for your take on this. after driving around the closest town in low range going 35 in 5th gear at about 3500 rpm i found a shop and they got it out in 10 minutes. im still trying to figure out what the clunking noise was when i locked my hubs and went into 4x4 low. if anyone has an opinion on this, id greatly appreciate it.

you drove your truck on tar/cement at 35 mph in 4WD Low?
don't you know your never supposed to drive at all in 4x4 on any hard dry surface?
I really hope you didn't burn out your transfer case.
