Rebuilt/Used Tranny??

So I bought my 2005 2.3L, manual tranny truck used around 2 months ago. I got a good deal on it, so I wasn't stressing about the tranny. But now that I have some money, I'm looking to fix or replace it. The guy before me learned to drive stick on it, and now it grinds when I shift to second. It does this even though I put the clutch in, put it in third, then put it in second and let the clutch out. I'm assuming thats the synchros, and that they were beat to sh!t by the previous owner.

Is it possible/worth it to get a rebuild kit for this tranny? Or is it just cheaper and easier to buy a used transmission?
