I have been in the process of fixing a wrecked 2000 3.0L 4X4 Ranger. The original 4R44E transmission was cracked where the bell housing meets the block. I managed to find a cheap replacement and have decided to overhaul it while its out. I noticed the front shaft that protrudes from the bell housing will not spin, so I removed the housing with the pump still attached and it will still not rotate.
The drive clutches were completely toast while the overdrive clutches seem fine.
When I removed the original trans I spuun the converter to access the bolts that attach to the flywheel.
Before I get into the costly pump rebuild I just wanted to get some thoughts on what if anything is beleived to be the problem with the pump.
