Default 88 Ranger Transmission/Clutch Questions

Hey Everyone

Got an 88 Ranger Ext cab with the 2.3 4cyl and a 5spd with OD.

As best as I can figure, it has the Mazda MD50.
Is this correct? Do I need to worry about which version as far as buying fluid for it?

From what I have read, it takes ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid?)
Is this correct?
Does it take mercon, dexron, or what?

Is replacing the clutch a doable job? I've heard it takes more time than it is hard? I know I would need the clutch kit, is there anything else that I should replace while I am under there?

I have read about some plugs leaking on the MD50.
Where are they located and what is the best way to stop the leaking?

Thanks for your time

clutch release bearing. old one may look ok but because of work involved change it anyways. cluth alignment tool. this job takes a lot of hours. idealy you would pull the motor when you do this job because of accessibility issues. you will need a transmission jack otherwise. it weighs around 100 lbs. can be done on vehicle but not easy. if trans not good i would consider changeing it too. good luck
