Default changing manual trans fluid

i dont know whether or not to change my trans fluid i know in autos if its spent it could be worse to change it is it the same in a manual, it is pitch black

Yes, you need to change it. Every 60,000 miles with Mercon ATF or Mercon V ATF depending on the year of your truck. Also, if you don't have any manuals (the info is in there) you can get electronic copies from the Ford site in the service section. I believe there are also links to the manuals on this forum.

I was curious about the manual trans fluid change.
chilton says that the fluid should be good for the life of the trans
manual says 60k i believe.

Definitely not good for life. Now if you have 75W140 synthetic in the rear axle, it is according to the owner's manual. Chilton's and Haynes manuals are better than nothing but you have to verify the information they provide.
