Default Shift slow forward to reverse when cold

Hi all:
I just purchased a 2000 ranger with a 3.0 v6 and automatic.
I noticed this morning that when shifting from reverse to drive, it takes about 3 or 4 seconds for it to engage. Otherwise it operates normally.
I tried searching but to no avail. The fluid level is just below the crosshatch's on the dip stick. I will add a quart later today. But wanted to ask if something else may be to blame. Where should I look? Any other advise you may have.
150k miles on it. Yes I know, alot of miles.
Thanks
