2007 Ranger Transmission Problem?
Hi Guys,
Lately when doing highway speeds ive noticed some vibration going through the truck so I brought it to a garage and had a full tire balance and front end alignment done thinking it would take care of it, but this morning i noticed no difference. I did notice lately however, when going from drive to reverse or reverse to drive, the truck shudders when i give it gas right after the gear change, could all this be related? Id like to get this issue corrected before my warranty runs out.

If you have a warranty, take it to Ford and give them absolute hell about it until they make it right. My Ranger has done what you speak of since September of 2010, and I have yet to get it figured out. Unfortunately for me, the problem has gotten worse and now gained a hesitation. In drive or reverse, the rpms drop to around 400-500 and the truck shutters when I apply gas. Also has a hesitation when accelerating. Right now the only thing left I haven't checked is the Torque Converter Control Circuit. The symptoms are synonymous with a Torque Converter that won't unlock or intermittently will not unlock. Mine runs great when cold and does not do the shutter or hesitation until it warms up. The only code the trans throws is when I maintain steady speed around 45-60 mph and I get the shutter. If I speed up and slow down constantly, the truck doesn't shutter. The code I got was for the Torque Converter Control Circuit Performance or Stuck Off.

not yet, i got an appointment for an oil change friday i'll have them look at it then, im not leaving until its right. One thing that pisses me off too is when they try to just keep changing parts until they find the problem, i would hope the dealer can narrow it down and take care of it first time right. Shitty to hear zilla im deffinetly planning on giving hell when and if i get any run around.

The number one thing Ford dealership techs seem to do when they hear "transmission issues" is replace the valve body. Some times this fixes it, and some times it doesn't. What they're supposed to do is hook it up to their scanners and run the transmission through it's cycles and monitor the transmission signals sent by the TCU to the solenoids, and etc. But what seems to be happening is the techs get confident and assume it's always the valve body, so they just seem to replace the valve body without even doing the proper diagnostics. Not all the dealer service departments do it, but there's a large majority of those who seem to. I wish I could personally get inside a service department and see them do it for proof. But if you go in a knowledgeable consumer and request data sheets showing the numerous issues that became apparent during the proper diagnostic tests, then you may be able to catch them in the act of trying to throw parts at the truck.

Stevebutt16; Which motor/transmission combo have you got? Also have you eliminated a possible ignition issue causing the vibration?

Re: 2007 Ranger Transmission Problem?
The worst thing is, i have a bit of a noise coming from a front wheel bearing but i dont think thats whats causing the vibrations, and im almost confident the dealership will use that as an out and it still wont solve my problem. The vibration can mostly be felt in the seats/armrest and theres alot of rattle in the back in rear cup holder/jack cover. Does this sound like a U-Joint? Im really dreading this trip to the dealership lol.

Hmm, it could be the front U-Joint. Have you gone out and checked them yet?

Re: 2007 Ranger Transmission Problem?
So, my truck has been at the dealership all day, just got a call saying they awknowledge that there is indeed a bad vibration ... but they cant seem to figure out what is causing it? Like wtf is this for real? Less than 60 000km and they cant pinpoint the problem, and this is a dealership that sells only ford, and only trucks. Un-fucking-real. lol. I guess at this point i should just be happy they are even awknowledging the problem lol OH, and they never even mentioned the front wheel bearing that is starting to get bad either.

Re: 2007 Ranger Transmission Problem?
well they just called me, told me to take my truck again for the weekend so im not stuck for a ride. Apparently now they think its either the back brakes, or the tires. Keyword is think. So wtf do they expect me to do buy $1000 worth of rubber because that "might" be the problem? I also highly doubt theres anything wrong with my rear drums because i had brand new brakes on the back 20 000km's ago. I brought it to the dealership to avoid this "might" and "we think" shit, im sick of going to garages and having to pay for all troubleshooting parts up to and including the actual issue.

Re: 2007 Ranger Transmission Problem?
Actually, thinking and exclaiming "might" are qualities and phrases Ford mechanics hold dear. With problems like you're experiencing and inexperienced mechanics, all you can really do is throw parts at it.
