Had to tow my truck.
So I was driving home from work last saturday. It started out with a squeek in my front driver's side, then went to a loud klunk every time the axle rotated. I thought it was just something hanging down from engine bay and hitting the axle. Then I realized it sounded more like my calipers were collapsing and not being brought back out. So a normal 35 min drive took over an hour because I was driving slow. Brakes were barely working when I pulled into my driveway. I know I probably should have stopped right away but I didn't have any other way to get home. I get out of my truck and look behind my tire. I smell burning and see smoke coming from my brakes. I had it towed to my dealership. They said a bearing went out and f'd up everything. Rotor is melted and calipers are f'd. They said it was due to the over sized tires. and it would be a on going problem.
Has anyone else every experienced this? Bearing going bad due to larger tires?

Re: Had to tow my truck.
I have never hear dof larger tires cause that problem, but many have said that a T-bar crank can toast your wheel bearing, could that be the culprit?

Re: Had to tow my truck.
i thinkk the dealerships full o shit. see how many people run 33s with no issue? i think it could be ust wear and tear. and it got worse cause you drove the rest of the way home like that.

The dealerships will do and say anything to take the blame off of Ford for poor manufacturing so that you don't go after Ford for it.

Re: Had to tow my truck.
sounds like a smaller version of what happened to mine. tbar crank and larger tires wears parts faster. take it as a loss and upgrade it to SAS it ended up being cheaper for me than replacing all of the damn FORD parts that broke.

Re: Had to tow my truck.
Thanks for the responses guys. I feel as it's the Tbar cranking that is a major culprit. Maybe I should back them off a bit. But me driving all the way home definately didn't help. I would SAS but having it fixed is much easier for me.
I did buy my truck used, and even though it looked to be in great shape, you never know how the owner before me treated that truck. Oh well. It's done and fixed up now and running like she was before. Super smooth and still hauls ass.

Re: Had to tow my truck.
t-bar crank does not affect the life of wheel bearings. although larger tires do wear them quicker, it should not wear noticeably faster. Just replace them with timken wheel bearings. do left and right while you are at it

well yea it does on a 4WD remember there is a half shaft that runs through the middle of the hub on them and its angle changes when the tbars are cranked.
